Lent is the forty day period before Easter, excluding Sundays, which
begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. While this journey
must end at cavalry we have the knowledge that the empty tomb lies
beyond.

Please remember that Ash Wednesday (2/17) and Good Friday (4/2) are days of fast and abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
The rule of fasting states that only one full meal a day can be taken. Two small meals, "sufficient to maintain strength," are allowed, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals breaks the fast, but drinking liquids (non-alcoholic) does not. The rule of fasting obliges all Catholics from 18 to 59. The rule of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years of age and older. Parents should be vigilant about their children's observances of Lent.
All Catholics are called to choose other forms of
penance according to their own needs or abilities.
